Volunteering
The golf course at Holyville is being maintained by a small group of volunteers. Nobody is a professional greensperson or gardener, but what we are is enthusiastic about spending some time at this wonderful place and turning our hands to whatever we can do. Yes, we want to return the course to its former glory (and do our best to keep it that way), but this isn't just for golfers!
We'd welcome anyone who wants to get outdoors and do some 'gardening'; people of all abilities and ages - no special skills needed. You might not want to mow a green, so you could maintain other parts of the landscape; trimming, weeding, planting etc. Whatever you wanted to get involved in, guidance, training and equipment is provided. If you did want to use the course, all we ask is that you attend at least two organised sessions a month.
Organised sessions are usually a Wednesday evening , 4.00pm to dusk, and Saturday mornings - weather permitting. Some will do more outside of these times to suit themselves, but that's up to the individual. Note that all volunteers are insured whilst working on the course.
If you are interested in becoming a Holyville Volunteer, or would like more information, contact Ray, the volunteer coordinator on 07917 532568.
In May 2022, the first call for volunteers was sent out by Nick, through Saddleworth Independent. You can see the original article here.
